Wire wound root soldered fin tubes with base tube diameters ranging from 3 mm to 100 mm with fin heights between 2 mm to 28 mm are manufactured at TAAM engineering, India. Stainless Steels, Carbon Steels, Copper and Copper Alloy tubes are finned with Stainless Steel, Mild Steel and Copper Wires.
The tubes can be provided with turbulators inside to enhance tube side heat transfer coefficient for use in air cooled oil coolers.
Our special finning machines fin tubes in any lengths even exceeding 6 meters. The loops of wire are continuously root soldered on the finning machine. Infinite combinations of loops per turn and turns per foot are possible.
Solders used withstand tube wall temperatures up to 175 deg C. Special solders are used for temperatures between 175 C and 290 C. Wire wound tubes are not suitable for tube wall temperatures exceeding 290 C.

Wire wound fin tube consists of a base tube with oval or near rectangular loops formed of wire which are wound helically over the tube with root soldering of foot of every loop to the tube.
The loop of wire creates greater turbulence thereby increasing the heat transfer coefficient. Root soldering along the entire length eliminates almost all air gaps between the fin and the tube.
For most applications, wire wound fin tubes make it possible to design a much compact heat exchanger coupled with lower pressure drop compared to conventional fin tubes.

The following write up about Fin Tubes and Fin Tube Heat Exchangers is for information purpose only. Readers are free to contact us for our suggestions and assistance in selection or search the web here:
Generally, addition of any metal piece to a heat transfer tube is an extended surface. The addition or attachment of these metal pieces serves a purpose greater than just increase in external area. These pieces are commonly referred to as fins. The fins increase the total heat transfer area, but the process of heat transfer in fin tubes is quite different than simple conduction and convection.
As the name suggests, transverse or radial tubes are attached perpendicular to the axis of the base tube or pipe. The fins may be applied or attached to the outside of the fin tube or rolled up from the parent metal of the finned tube. The common types of transverse or radial fin tubes are:
These consist of a strip of metal of suitable width and thickness tension wound on tube. Unless root soldered at base, the percentage void space between the fin and the outside surface of the base tube cannot be ascertained. This leaves some doubt in my mind about the actual performance. The maximum operating wall temperature for this type of root soldered finned tubes is 290 deg C.
Root soldered wire wound tubes consist of loops of wire helically wound over the base tube. The foot of each loop is root soldered to the outer surface of the tube. The key factor here is use of proper tension wire and good soft soldered bond of the fins to the external surface of the base tube to eliminate all voids between the base of the looped fin and tube. The maximum operating wall temperature for this type of finned tubes is 290 deg C.
